Support us to teach real science - UCC Pro-Vice Chancellor

Authorities at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) are calling on government to support the university with the needed funds in bringing to bear the true meaning of science education in the country.

According to the Pro- Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. George Kwaku Toku Oduro, the teaching of science should be anchored on practical work which deepens understanding leading to innovation.

Speaking during the commissioning of refurbished Glass Blowing Unit of the Science department, Prof. George Oduro explained that much can be achieved in the arena of the sciences if government will partner the university to promote science education.

The refurbishment of the unit, he explained is ample evidence that the university is not only committed to science education but also has the capacity to promote research and teaching of the science especially the practical aspect and therefore should be supported to do more.

Government, he stated must invest more in science education as it plays a significant role in the development of the country.

The Air Blowing Unit, he stated will be made available for the teaching of science at all levels of education.

Also present at the ceremony was the former Vice Chancellor of the University who is also the immediate past Minister in charge of Education, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.

She described the project as a dream come true despite the initial challenges in completing it.

The unit, she added will go a long way to promote the practical teaching of science in the country.
